Junior Leadership Team (JLT)

The Junior Leadership Team (JLT) is a democratically elected group of pupils who represent the views, ideas and experiences of children across our school. The JLT provides an important opportunity for pupils to contribute to decision-making and play an active role in shaping school life.

Who are the Junior Leadership Team?

The JLT is made up of our Year 6 House Captains and Vice Captains, together with four elected representatives from each year group from Year 1 to Year 6.

Pupils who wish to become representatives take part in a democratic election process. Candidates prepare and deliver a speech to their class, explaining why they would be the best person to represent their peers. Class members then vote to elect their representatives.

Elections are held annually, providing opportunities for new pupils to put themselves forward and take on a leadership role within the school.

What do the Junior Leadership Team do?

The JLT meets regularly with Mrs Musarurwa to discuss issues that are important to pupils and the wider school community. Through these meetings, children learn valuable leadership skills, including how meetings are conducted, how decisions are made and how effective teams work together.

The JLT:

  • Represents the views of pupils across the school.
  • Shares ideas for improving school life.
  • Helps to plan and implement positive changes.
  • Monitors the impact of initiatives and developments.
  • Contributes to the school's self-evaluation and improvement planning.
  • Promotes pupil voice and encourages active participation in school life.

The views and suggestions of the JLT help us continually improve our school and ensure that children's perspectives are at the heart of decision-making.

Making a Difference

The Junior Leadership Team has already made a significant contribution to school improvement, including:

  • Supporting the development of our school toilets.
  • Helping to create a child-friendly School Development Plan.
  • Developing an anti-bullying flowchart for pupils.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Habits of Mind programme across the school.

Through their leadership, commitment and enthusiasm, JLT members help make Our Lady of the Rosary an even better place to learn, grow and succeed.

"Pupil voice is at the heart of our school. Through the Junior Leadership Team, children have a genuine opportunity to influence decisions and help shape the future of our school community."
