At Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School, Christ is at the centre of everything we do. Religious Education is therefore at the heart of school life and can be seen in every aspect of our community, from our classrooms and collective worship to our relationships and playtimes. Our Catholic faith underpins our curriculum, values and mission, enabling children to grow spiritually, morally and academically.
Religious Education is taught through the Day by Day scheme of work, which provides a rich and engaging curriculum rooted in Scripture and the teachings of the Catholic Church. The programme encourages both teachers and pupils to explore God's Word, deepen their understanding of the faith, and reflect on how the Gospel message guides us in our daily lives. Through this approach, children develop a strong knowledge of Scripture and are supported in building a personal relationship with God.
As part of the Religious Education curriculum, all Catholic schools are required to teach about other world religions and faith traditions. This reflects the Church's commitment to fostering understanding, respect and dialogue within our diverse society.
At Our Lady of the Rosary, we dedicate two focused weeks each year to the study of other faiths. During the Autumn Term, children develop their knowledge and understanding of Judaism, exploring its beliefs, traditions and customs. In the Summer Term, pupils learn about Islam, gaining insight into Islamic beliefs, practices and celebrations. These dedicated learning weeks are complemented by opportunities throughout the year within the Day by Day programme to deepen pupils' understanding of different faiths and cultures.
Through Religious Education, we aim to nurture children who are reflective, compassionate and respectful, equipping them with the knowledge and understanding to value both their own faith and the beliefs of others in our wider community and world.
